Lost in the rushing torrent,
I fight the surface for breath.
Lungs heavy, strained with each gasp.
My body aches for pause,
Arms grovel and grasp fluid.
I plunge myself low, searching for ground.
Further under I sink,
Light blurs above my head.
Legs battle against current, forcing for air.
Relief comes for a moment,
Frantically gulping in life.
Murky end below, waiting for collapse.
Looking towards the sky,
I plea to end this cruel war.
Tired limbs stiffen, stay still for rest.
Weightless in water, I rise,
Drifting atop its violent reach.
Now I’m floating, I surrender to peace.
